Background:

I am a board certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Denver, Colorado. I trained at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and The Menninger Clinic in Topeka, KS. My psychoanalytic training was at the Topeka Institute and the Houston-Galveston Institute. I eagerly pursue continuing education in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

Treatments: I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families, with problems such as:
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress related disorders
  • Relationship problems
  • Dysthymia (long term, low grade depression)
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Bipolar Disorder (five types have been identified)
  • Schizophrenia

How we can work together:

First, a consultation in which we discuss your current problems and complaints, and devise a plan of treatment. We would decide to work in one of the following ways:

Short-term, problem-oriented or symptom-oriented psychotherapy, usually requiring 10 to 12 weekly sessions.

Long-term therapy, requiring a commitment of 6 to 12 months or longer, in order to address a wider range of more long-standing problems, with increasing insight and understanding of oneself.

We may find that your degree of distress is high enough that medication would be helpful, in which case we will work together to find the right medication or combination of medications in order to optimize your mood and level of functioning.

I have a holistic approach, and we can explore the benefits of exercise, meditation, diet, nutritional and herbal supplements.

EMDR: I also offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a very effective treatment for trauma-related disorders, as well as mood problems that have not responded to psychotherapy or medication. To learn more about EMDR, go to EMDR.com

Psychoanalysis: This is the most in-depth, comprehensive therapy available, for those with the motivation to resolve long-standing problems with love or work. It is usually four or five days a week for three to five years, lying on the couch with the analyst out of view. You can learn more about it by clicking here:
Facts about Psychoanalysis

My Book: I have written a book called the One-Minute Meditator, an introduction to meditation. You can learn all about it by clicking here:
One Minute Meditator

Fees: My practice is fee-for-service, payment due at the end of each 50-minute hour. I can give you a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I do not participate in managed care, Medicare or MediCal.

Testing:

You can take any of the tests at Online Psych Testing, and I will be happy to discuss the results with you. If needed I can refer you to a psychologist for a more comprehensive assessment.
